Dark Circles Under EyesDark circles referred to as dark discoloration of the skin under the eye and also known as dark rings or shadows.
Both men and women of different age groups can have dark circles.
They give you a tiresome appearance as well as make you look ages more established from your actual age. Dark circles are not a serious skin problem, but people having dark circles looks tired, weak, older, dull and not so confident.

What Causes Dark Circles?

Some of the main causes behind the formation of dark circles are

  • Mental or physical stress
  • Heredity
  • Working for long hours in front of a computer
  • Prolonged crying
  • Aging
  • Lack of sleep
  • An unhealthy diet
  • Dry skin

There are many cosmetic products designed to remove dark circles but they are very expensive and laced with chemicals that can be harmful to the delicate skin under your eyes.
However, we have certain effective Natural Home Remedies that can help you greatly in getting rid of these ugly marks around your eyes.

  1. Orange juice and glycerin:

    • Mix orange juice with glycerin.
    • Apply the mixture for 15-20 minutes.
    • Then wash it with normal plain water.
    • However, besides removing your dark circles it will also provide your overall skin with an inner glow and will make your skin around your eyes smoother and softer than before.
  2. Almond Oil:

    Use the Almond Oil that is especially for Skin, not the almond hair oil available in market. You can buy it from any herbal store. Its regular usage will help fade your under eye circles. You can also use vitamin E oil in addition to Almond Oil to eliminate dark circles under the eyes.

    • Before going to Sleep, Apply a little almond oil over the dark circles around your eyes and gently massage it into the skin.
    • It give best results if you leave it overnight.
    • The next morning, wash it off with cold or normal Tap water.

  3. Apple:

    1. Cut the cucumber into thick round slices and place them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Take out that slices and place them on the dark affected area around the eye for at least 10 minutes. Wash it off with normal tap water. Repeat every day until you see results.
    2. Take a small bowl with cucumber juice, and dip two cotton pads into it. Place them on the dark affected area around the eye for at least 15 minutes, wash it off with plain water. You can also directly apply the juice on the dark circles. Repeat every day until you see results.
    3. Another remedy using cucumber is, to take two equal quantities of cucumber juice and lemon juice. Mix them into a small bowl. Dip a cotton ball into the juice mixture. Place it on the dark circles and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash it off with normal water and repeat this every day for a week.
  5. Turmeric:

    Turmeric can help minimize dark circles as it has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It will also make the soft skin around your eyes smoother, lighter and softer.

    • Make a thick paste by mixing two teaspoons each of turmeric powder and pineapple.
    • Apply this paste to the dark area around your eyes.
    • Leave it on for about 10 minutes then wipe it with a soft, damp cloth.
    • Do this daily until you get positive results.
  6. Raw Potato:

    Potato is a natural bleaching agent, that’s why, It is one of the best home remedies to reduce dark circles around the eyes.
    One can try any of the following remedies:

    1. Take chilled potatoes and extract its juice by blending the potato slices and sieving. Take a cotton ball and dip it into the potato juice. Flatten the cotton balls with your fingers and place it on the dark circles such that the juice covers your affected area. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse off with cool water. Continue this every day till you notice the change.
    2. You can also take thick potato slices and place them on the dark circles and repeat the same procedure.
    3. You can mix equal quantities on potato and cucumber juice. Apply this juice on the dark circles and leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash it off with normal water.
    4. Mix Potato juice, Cucumber juice and Coconut oil in 2:2:1. Apply the pack for 20 -30 minutes and then wash with Luke warm water. It will help you to get rid of many skin problems like acne, scars, dark circles and flaws etc. Do this every day for a minimum of 2 weeks to start noticing a difference. Once you achieve the desired results, you can apply this every alternate day.
  7. Rose Water:

    Rose water rejuvenates the skin and has a soothing effect on tired eyes. It has incredible ingredient for skin care. It has mild astringent properties, so it also works as a good skin toner.
    One can try any of the following remedies:

    1. Remedy 1:
      • Soak cotton eye pads in pure rose water for a few minutes.
      • Put the soaked pads on the affected area around your eyes.
      • Leave them on for about 15 minutes.
      • Follow this remedy twice daily for a few weeks.
    2. Remedy 2:
      • You can also make a paste of rose petals and milk and apply it over the dark circles.
  8. Tomato:

    Tomatoes have bleaching properties that can lighten skin to a great extent.
    One can try any of the following remedies:

    1. Remedy 1:
      • Mix one teaspoon of tomato juice with one-half teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply this mixture on the dark circles and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Rinse it off with water.
    2. Remedy 2:
      • You can also drink a glass of tomato juice with some mint leaves, lemon juice and salt. For maximum results, be sure to drink this juice immediately after making it. Drink it once or twice a day for about a week. It will add glow to your face.
    3. Remedy 3:
      • Mash one tomato into a paste.
      • Add one-half teaspoon of lemon juice, a pinch of turmeric powder and two teaspoons of gram flour to the tomato paste. Mix all the ingredients properly.
      • Apply that mixture as a mask on the dark circles.
      • Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water.
      • Do this two or three times each week for best results until you satisfied.
  9. Lemon Juice:

    Lemon Juice has astringent properties, so act as a Toner. The vitamin C present in lemon juice can also help remove dark circles under the eyes, due to its skin-lightening properties.

    • Dip a cotton ball into fresh lemon juice and apply it around your eyes. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and wash it off. Do this once daily for a few weeks.
  10. Mint:

    The cooling effect of mint leaves can immediately soothe and refresh tired eyes and helps reduce dark circles.

    1. Remedy 1:
      • Take five to six mint leaves and crush them.
      • Apply these leaves around the eyes and leave it on for 10 minutes.
      • Wipe it off with a cold cloth.
    2. Remedy 2:
      • Blend a handful of fresh mint leaves into a paste. Add the juice from half a tomato juice to it.
      • You need to apply this paste on the dark circles
      • Leave it on for 5 to 7 minutes.
      • Wash off this area with cold water.
    3. Remedy 3:
      • Blend a handful of fresh mint leaves into a paste. Add the juice from half a lemon to it.
      • Apply the mixture on the dark circles.
      • Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water.
      • Gently pat dry the skin with a soft cloth.
      • Do this once daily until you get positive results
  11. Cold Tea Bags:

    • Soak a tea bag in water.
    • Place it in a refrigerator for some time.
    • Then place these tea bags over your eyes.
    • You can also use chamomile tea bag.
    • Regular use will lighten the dark circles and give a soothing effect to your eyes.
  12. Vitamin E Oil:
